Most of the Freedpeople have an interest in the crops they cultivate, comparatively few working for regular wages, and I must repeat my statements in last month's report, that there is a disposition among those who have contracted with a large number of hands on shares, to discharge a portion of them upon frivolous excuses, the real cause being a desire to secure their part of the crop" This course always ends in a dispute between the parties and frequently ends in blows, and the civil authorities as a general thing are too slow and indifferent to render any redress.

Very Respectfully
