among the Aged and Infirm  There is a large class of women with families who are suffering for want of employment, as there is great reluctance to employ those burdened with families. The Schools reopened on the 14th. There are now five in operation. Three at the Alfred St. School House and two at the Pitt St. with are aggregate attendance of 171 Scholars. The great difficulty under which the cause of Education labors among the Freedpeople, is the indifference exhibited by Parents in regard to their Children's education. They do not seem to be willing to do much toward the support of Teachers. Even the tax of ten cents, levied upon the Scholars monthly, has had the effect of keeping some children from School, owing to the inability or unwillingness of their Parents, to pay it.
