imployed about something, yet not as profitably so, as though they had well informed minds and more experience in managing their affairs. But they are improving, every class are doing better now than at first.

Many of them are compeled to leave the places they occupied this year because they have not sacrificed their manhood and allied themselves with a political party which has among its objects and aims the around purpose of keeping the freedmen in ignorance,. and depriving him of all those rights which have been secured to him during and since the war.

Rents are still high, and this fact alone will subject the freedmen to much suffering during the winter, and until there shall be a change.

The feeling towards the freedmen on the part of the whites (Democrats) in this Division, has wonderfully changed since my last report. Places where a month ago land could not be obtained at any price, is now given
