Bureau of R.F.& A Lands Office of ASAC 2nd Div 10 SD Va Manassas Va Oct 31 1868 Bvt Brg Genl O Brown Bureau R F & A Lands Richmond Va General In compliance with Cir no 6 series 1866 I have the honor to report the state of feeling between the whites & Freedmen to be the same as before reported. The Freedmen are all at work and have done their fall work faithfully and are preparing for the winter Some have trouble in settling with their employers quite a number of which I have settled during the past month. The Freedmen do not seem to evince that eagerness for schools as formaly which I think is because the society wants them to assist in paying for the teachers quite a number though are not only determined to educate their children but also themselves a good night school is in progress at Manassas. The schools are as yet thinly attended in consequence of full work I am General very Respectfully Your Obt Servt W.S. Chase A.S.A. Comr
