The school at Christiansburg was re-opened on the first of the month, in charge of the Ladies, whose last years efforts were crowned with so much success. The prospect for the future is very encouraging. At Newbern, the school is increasing in interest, and the work being prosecuted with zeal, by the Lady having it in charge. The school at Salem is getting fairly under way, and under charge of the Lady, recently assigned to that place, whose whole heart is in the work, it must prosper.
 
The County Schools, taught by colored teachers are accomplishing a good work, and will prepare the way, by teaching the more simple and primary branches of education, for those who shall come after, who will be better qualified to advance these pupils, in the higher and more difficult branches of study. 

The call from almost every quarter, is for Teachers to come among them. Many of those living in the country, justly fearing, that those have the advantages in the towns, will outstrip them entirely, and that their children will never be able (I will give it in the language of an anxious parent) to catch up with rest. 

The Sabbath Schools are also doing a good work, which are encouraged by kind friends in Philadelphia and other places, by sending Books, Cards, Papers, etc. The one at Christiansburg is in a very flourishing condition, and has been bearing good fruit for the last twelve months. The temperance organizations are still lifting up their banners, and constantly there are additions to their numbers. Some during the past year have saved sufficient to buy them a small parcel of ground,
