complain of inability to get work done on account of loss of control, idle dispositions &c. while the Freedmen complain that they are not paid or well used and encouraged to work.

The School interests have been carefully looked after. A lot has been purchased by private donations in a good location near the Court House (Lunenburg Co) and the house, erected in 1867 by Bureau funds & contributions and located one mile from the Court House and highway and in the woods has been removed and fitted up thereon at an expense to the Bureau of $25.00. A day, night, and Sabbath School has been organized with over 90 Scholars. Efforts have been made to procure a teacher for a school at Meherrin Station where there is a house ready but without success as yet. At Burkeville there is a good school house in which is kept a small school but owing to division among the Colored people it is of but little benefit,
