The day school at Hickory Hill on Genl Wickham's plantation has closed they teachers being desirous of resuming his studies. Genl Wickham is intending soon to erect a building upon his place, at his own expense, to be used as School house and chapel, for the benefit of the col'd people on his and the adjoining plantations.

Mr Waller, the former teacher, promised to return at that time. He was a useful teacher. This leaves but three schools at this time in the County which are receiving aid from the Bureau, two at Ashland, and one at Old Church. Of the former one is taught by Richd. Foster, and continues in interest, although the numbers are less.  The other is a night school taught by Julia M Carter.  This and the day school at Old Church, William P Brown, teachers are doing well.
