and making fair wages but the greatest trouble is the scarcity of money, fair crops have been raised but prices range low and many are forced to sell at a disadvantage.
The state of feeling exhibited by the whites toward the Freedmen is rather improving but still both parties lack confidence in each other. The Freedmen are not favorable to the formation of Temperance Organizations and although they are not given to excessive dissipation, still from close observation given to this subject, I am convinced that the money spent by Freedmen on "Intoxicating Drink" in this Division if applied to school purposes, would serve double the number of schoolhouses and leave a balance on hand
