schools without aid from the Bureau or some other source, unless they can obtain Colored Teachers who will serve for a very moderate compensation and board with those who patronize the school, I learn there was a bit between the Freedman working on the Rail Road near Harrisonburg and the Freedmen of the town. The civil authorities act promptly and justly in all cases in this district as far as my knowledge extends. There are now seven sabbath schools and two day schools in operation in Shenandoah and Rockingham Counties.
