The attendance at the Schools has been better during the past month, than for the month previous, but owing to the backward season, they have been delayed in securing their crops, thereby keeping a large number of children out of school, it is hoped that in the month of December a large increase of pupils will be received. The number of schools in operation in this Div. during the past month has been seven (7) with seven Teachers, supported by the Asso. of Friends and in part by freedmen, with an aggregate attendance of 212. pupils, showing an increase of one school and 44 scholars. With few exceptions there is an indifference manifested by the whites toward the education of the colored people, and some of the col'd people, who are under the influence of those who are opposed to education, evince the same apathy and indifference, and are not willing to contribute towards the support of a teacher, or in any way assist in the great work of delivering them from the darkness in which they have been so long kept.
As far as I know there are but two Temperance Societies in this division, with a large attendance of members.

Very Respectfully
Your obt. Servt.
