Captain. I have the honor herewith to submit my report of Bureau affairs in general
for this Sub Dist for December 1868. There is absolutely no change in anything since my last report save in one instance.
There is now a white man formerly a Union Soldier teaching in place of Louis Taylor at Creek Station The day before Christmas he was assaulted on the R.R. track 13 miles from Wytheville by a gang of
Rebels who knocked him down beat & threatened to kill him. The assaulting party crying out "kill the d-d Yankee son of a b-h who comes down here to teach a nigger school & teach 'em equality" &c &c &c. This looks as if the removal of the Bureau would not be attended with a salutary effect. A short time afterwards the same party attacked a Mr Grub a white union man of the neighborhood &
