of property, thereby becoming independent and self reliant, is continually manifesting itself in various ways; but, instead of discouraging them is the source of much zeal in their progressive march.

I fear that when the Bureau ceases to exist, and the colored people are shorn of its protection, their enemies, not having the fear of its authority before their eyes, will take advantage of its absence and their helplessness and practically put into practice their particular views relative to the theory of capital governing labor, and thereby loading the colored people with such [[burthins?]] as will retard their advancement.  It is to be hoped however, that wise counsel will be heeded, the lessons of experience be not forgotten and the practice of christian charity be made a common virtue.
