very favorably with any in the state. The freed people of my Division as a class are very respectable and industrious and are prospering as well as could be expected. It has been always my aim in the administration of the affairs of my office to deal fairly & impartially with all and to see the freedman protected in their rights as far as lay in my power and I leave the office feeling in my own heart & having the assurances of the colored people that I have done my duty as far as lay in my power.

The colored people are apprehensive that when the Bureau is removed or ceases by Congressional limitation, that they will not be protected in their rights of property and person.
