more interest in being educated themselves. As this is the last report I will be called upon to make I must say that for the three years I have been doing duty in the Bureau I have seen great advancement among the colored people All of them who were willing to work have done well and many are now owning small farms who at the close of the war were destitute of everything. The evil of intemperance has been checked among them to a greater degree than I thought possible but a great work is needed to stop this among all classes of the people.

As I expect to remain in this state I shall use all the influence I can control to establish more schools and aid all classes both White and Black in building school houses and becoming a better people.

I am General very respectfully
