Wytheville Va Nov 27th 1865
Respectfully returned to Brig Genl Eaton.
Capt Eastman has been relieved as Supt of this Dist. I learn by personal & thorough investigation that James Green did not leave Wytheville on the cars for Alexandria Va. He left this place Monday Oct 24th with a Cattle Drover resident of Wytheville bound for Richmond Va. Mr Lawson is at present away on another trip & I cannot learn whether the boy reached Richmond with him or not. I presume he did. The boys intention was to proceed from Richmond to Washington. The transportation for him arrived from Richmond about a week after he left. Mr Lawson will soon return when I can gather additional information which I will forward if desirable.
