108 Virginia Dept of James Joyes Lieut & Asst Supt Endorsement on letter of Lieut James Joyes Asst Supt dated Charlottesville Va Jan 26th 1866 (J.67) forwarding depositions in case of Commonwealth vs Cole and asks for instructions as to the disposal of Defendant. Richmond Va Feby 1st 1866 Respty forwarded to Bvt Brig Genl Ed W Smith AAG Dept of Va with the recommendation that the superintendent of the District order a Commission to be composed of three Officers of the Bureau for the trial of Cole. The finding and sentence of said Commission to be submitted to the Dept Comdr (Sgd) O. Brown Col & Asst Comr Official James A. Bates AAAG see page 119. A.S. Flagg Capt & AQM LeRoy Doud Lt & Asst Supt Endorsement on letter of Lieut LeRoy Doud Asst Supt datedd Suffolk Va Jan 24th 1866 (D.27) makes application for relief in case of suspension of pay. Richmond va Jan 31st/66 Respty returned to Capt A.S. Flagg Supt 1st Dist Va Special Orders No 2.C.S. from his (Flagg's) Office relieved Lt LeRoy Doud from duty in this Bureau He will have no trouble in getting his pay at the final settlement. By order of Col O Brown James A. Bates AAAG T.F.P. Crandon Capt AQM &c John White Dabney M. Perkins Endorsement on Indenture made Jan 1st 1866 between John White an overseer of the poor of the County of Fluvanna, and Dabney M. Perkins of said County. Richmond Va Jan 31st/66 Respty returned to Capt Crandon Supt 4th Dist Va The Indenture can be cancelled by the Officer of the Bureau if it is desirable it should be done. These boys are certainly worth more than is allowed them in the Indenture. By order of Col. O. Brown James A. Bates AAAG 109 James Johnson Maj & Supt Wm Brown (cold) Endorsement on letter of Wm Brown (cold) dated Richmond Va Jan 31st 1866 (B.146) makes statements in regard to himself and children Richmond Va Jan 31st/66 Respty referred to Maj James Johnson Supt 10th Dist Va for investigation and report. By order of Col. O. Brown James A. Bates AAAG Rec'd Back "Middlesex Co not in 10th Dist" & Referred to Capt Crandon for investigation & report Feb 6th/66 Rec'd Back Mar 13th/66 & Filed. Mrs E.A. Lowell Endorsement on letter of Mrs E.A. Lowell dated Norfolk VA Jan 27th 1866. (L 41) makes statement in regard to Bonds taken from her house. Richmond Va Jan 31st/66 Respty returned to Mrs E.A. Lowell. The papers referred to were returned to her. (Mrs E.A. Lowell) thro' Capt A.S. Flagg with the recommendation that Mrs L petition the U.S. Court for these bonds. By order of Col. O. Bates AAAG Stuart Barnes Capt AGM &c Endorsement on letter of Capt Stuart Barnes AQM & Supt dated Petersburg Va Jan 29th 1866 (B.147) requesting authority to sell certain specified property in his possession Richmond Va Jan 31st 1866 Respty returned to Capt Barnes for information as to whether he is responsible to the Q.M. Bates AAAG see page 129 Stuart Barnes Capt AQM &c William Wilson cold Chas Higgins Endorsement on letter of William Wilson (cold) dated Richmond Va Jan 31st 1866 (W.194) complains that he was maltreated by a confederate named Chas Higgins a resident of Surry County and claims redress.
