(C. 155) request appointment to take charge of a colony of col'd families who will volunteer to go to Florida & settle upon Gov't lands. &c &c. Fort Monroe Va Feby 10th/66 From personal acquaintance and intimate business relation with Mr George Chahoon, I feell confident in representing him as a man of integrity morality and talent. Mr Chahoon is a good lawyer a firm Union man and enjoys the confidence of the col'd people as fully as any one with whom I am acquainted. His practice in the Military Courts and his connection with the Government has rendered has rendered him thoroughly conversant with the workings of the Bureau, and I feel confident in stating that this appointment could not be given to a better man.
