The statement of the case is too vague for the decision of the Asst Com'r. An act of the General Assembly of Va was [[strikethrough]] been [[/strikethrough]] passed about a month ago on the subject of contracts and payments in confederate currency, which 
requires exact knowledge of date & circumstances. If the case is brought into the Freedmen's Court by the claimant the record and judgement will be forwarded to these Head Qrs for final decision.

Respty returned. Upon examination I can learn of no private parties who have claimed the within mentioned cooking range. It appears however that certain parties alleging to have been sent by the Quartermaster at Fort Monroe were discovered in the act of tearing down the brick masonry in which said range was put up. and this in the Chespeake Hospital, which has been duly turned over to the Freedmens Bureau. and to Rev Mr Raymond representing the loyal owners therein.
Those properly in charge of the said Hospital protested against this depredation upon a fixture of the building and it was stopped by the Military authorities art Fort Monroe.
