of the Freedmens Bureau to select a sight. (Objection being made by Capt Dallas comm'd'r of the Post to locating it on the Poor House Farm) I pointed out a body of land which I believed belonged to Messers D.F. Jas May (which upon inquiry of Dr D.F. May who visited the location in person with me this morning confirms my belief) perfectly isolated as one could be selected around the city, it is located N.W. of Rushmore about three hundred yards, the winds at this season prevail from the S.W. which would blow off all effluvia (if there was any) from Mr R's residence. I have no hesitancy in saying that there is no danger to Mr Rushmore's family from the present Pest House used by Surgeon Pratt of Freedmens Bureau x x x x x

Respty returned attention invited to endorsement and certificates of Surg Pratt USA and Dr Couch Prest Board of Health of this city.
I have personally examined the location and although no Pest House in vicinity of a private residence is desirable. I should not think there could be any danger from its present location. It is built on the land of Mr May whose permission we have. not on Mr Rushmore's
