Williamsburg Va
Feby 28th 1866
Respty returned XXXX Upon a thorough investigation I find the horse referred to is in possession of the Freedmens Bureau in York Co. It appears from the best evidence in my possession that it was taken from Mrs Hockady in Feby or Mch 1865 by John Donnally a scout in the employ of Govt sent out by Col J. J. Morrison then com'dg at this Post. It was turned over by the Qr Mr on the order of Genl Ludlow to Capt C. W. Coffin Asst Supt York Co in May 1865.
It is now and has been since it came in possession of the F. Bureau reported on the Qr Mr papers xxxxxx
