Respty returned. I have fully investigated this case and it appears that Mr White who has often been to this Office has told wilful & extensive falsehoods.
He asserts that he had expended over $1300 on his farm all of which he would lose were the freedmen not driven off. He has not done over $150 worth of work on said farm. It contains 340 acres of which 250 acres are cleared land. The freedmen have taken 125 acres for which they are willing to pay a fair amt, the rest is at his disposal and he is now renting it out at an exhorbitant rate to other freedmen.
He distinctly and more than once assured the freedmen of whom he complains that they could stay as long as they desired, for five years, the time of his lease, if they chose. He says
