Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands
OFFICE ACTING ASSISTANT QUARTERMASTER.
Alexandria, Va., June 5th 1867

Capt. Garrick Mallery
A.A.A.G.
Bu. R.F. & A.L. State of Va.

Captain

I have the honor to transmit herewith Monthly Report of Abandoned and Confiscated Lands in my possession in 10th Sub. Dist. Va., during the month ending May 31s 1867. As this is the first report of this nature submitted by me, I deem it necessary for your information that I should make the following explanation-viz. The Lands borne on this Report as located in Loudon and Prince William Counties, were turned over to me under orders from Head Quarters Asst. Comr. State of Va. by Major W.S. Morse Supt. 4th Dist. Va. when those counties were transferred to the 10th District, and previous to this Report were accounted for by Capt. S.P. Lee Sub. Asst. Comr. of this District, and for this reason I made no reports.

The Lands appearing in Alexandria and Fairfax Counties, I have taken up by direction of Capt. Lee and hereafter these Reports will be made and forwarded over my signature.

I am Captain
Very Respectfully
Your Obdt. Servt.
Newton Whitten
1s Lieut. 6th V.R.C. & A.A.Q.M.
