of December 1865 address a letter to Hon WH Seward Secretary of State notifying him in writing that (affiant) had received and accepted the conditions of the pardon herein named, and that said letter was duly deposited and mailed at the Post Office in Staunton in said month of December last.

In testimony of all which I have hereunto signed my name and affixed the seal of the court aforesaid in office at Staunton this 28th day of February AD 1866 and in the 90th year of the Commonwealth

I, Lafayette Harmanson, clerk of the county court in and for said county in the State of aforesaid hereby certify that Edmund W. Bayly, a resident of said county, aged forty years, by occupation a farmer, this day personally appeared before me in said county and took and subscribed the oath prescribed in the Proclamation of Amnesty, issued by the President of the United States on the 29th day of May A.D. 1865 

Given under my hand this 28th day of July in the year 1865.
