without being able to receive any benefits from same and particularly in consideration of my present destitute condition, having no home for my wife and children, as well as my desire to correct an Offence into which I was unwillingly led by designing Politicians and for which I have already, I think, suffered enough, and in order that I may be encouraged in carrying into practice the resolutions formed to ever hereafter live as becomes a good true and loyal citizen of the United States of America and in every particular to make good the obligations of my Oath, and above all in consideration of the benefits vouchsafed to me by the Amnesty Proclamation of President Johnson, I would most earnestly and respectfully ask the restoration of my said property, and for this your petitioner will ever pray:
