The undersigned respectfully offers the following statement of facts in relation to his property in the County of Norfolk near the City of Portsmouth. That on or about the 8th day of May 1862 the undersigned with his family left his home with the intention of returning and placed one Eugene Brady in possession of his residence and farm but owing to circumstances over which he had no control he was unable to reach his home until on or about the 28th of May 1865 - that upon his return home he found his residence in the possession of colored people and nearly all of the farm laid waste, the said Eugene Brady having been deprived thereof by Military Authority - The Undersigned files herewith a certificate of the Clerk of Norfolk County showing his right of property, and also that his taxable property, is of a less value than twenty thousand dollars; he also filed a certificate of the clerk of the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Virginia showing that the said property has not been libeled and also a certificate of V.O. Cassell Notary Public of his having taken the Oath prescribed by the Proclamation of Amnesty of President Johnson- The undersigned would state that he is not liable to any of the exceptions contained in the Amnesty Proclamation of President Johnson and respectfully requests that his property may be restored to him.
