be interfered with or molested. No legal proceedings have ever been instituted against said property. My services to the United States have been long and faithful. I can not see my Brothers widow & her orphan children starve. I have lost much of my property small as it was, by this war. Now in consideration of the premises, I would most respectfully and earnestly ask permission to restore said farm to her and her orphan children - & if not inconsistent, with the rules & regulations of your Bureau, that the rent for the present year may be released to me.
