Whereas John Thompson now decd by his will, admitted to probat in the County Court of Norfolk on the 16th day of August 1847, when Elizabeth Thompson the Executrix therein named duly qualified as such, did direct his Executrix to sell his plantation usual called the Glebe at the mouth of the Western Branch of the Elizabeth river and in matter desired her to act under the advice and directions of his friend John A. Chandler as to the time of sale terms and credit, And whereas the said Elizabeth Thompson Executive as aforesaid under the advice and direction of the said John A. Chandler after having duly advertised the same did expose the said tract of land to sale at public auction before the Court house in Portsmouth in the nineteenth day of October in the year 1847 where the same was bid on by the said Chandler at the bid of six thousand four hundred and twenty five dollars, and whereas Leven Gayle has since offered to give six thousand five hundred dollars for the said land, which offers the said  Elizabeth Thompson Executrix aforesaid under the advice of the said John A. Chandler evidenced by his signing this Indenture made this 13 day of November in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty seven Between the said Elizabeth Thompson as executrix of John Thompson decd of the one part and Leven Gayle of the other Witnesseth that the said Elizabeth Thompson as executrix aforesaid for and in consideration of the said sum of six thousand five hundred dollars, five hundred dollars of which he has paid to the said Elizabeth Thompson Executrix as aforesaid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and the residual secured by bond and a deed of trust of even date with the deed hath granted bargained
