I have the honor respectfully to ask I be put in possession of a tract of land to the County of Elizabeth City of the State of Virginia containing estimation 30 acres more or less Bounded North by the land of Thomas Guy East by the Salt Ponds South by Samuel Copeland and West by - Perry Bloxom And beg leave respectfully to call your attention to the annexed order from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia as Norfolk and dated the 27th day of November AD 1865 with the suit of the U.S. vs John Giddings. Then the honor further to ask to be allowed rent for the said land from the 1st day of January 1864 to the 1st day of January 1866 the period which the Gov't. has been renting out the said land & as I am informed at the rent of $50- per annum

On this 6th day of December AD 1865 personally appeared before me W.R. Willis a Notary Public for the County aforesaid J.H. Watson and made oath in due form of law that the above described property belongs to the applicant John Giddings that it is not bound by any mortgages, Deeds of Trust or liens of any kind whatever and that there are no Freedmen on the said land
