About or nearly 2 month after this place, was occupied by the Union forces. My health was very much reduced. I applied to Genl. Velee for permission to visit Kittrell Springs Nor. Car. This freely granted to go and return without regard to time. On my arrival at the Springs, I was arrest next day and sent under to Raleigh N.C and tried before Ex. Govr. Clark and compelled [[strikethrough]] not [[/strikethrough]] to a large Bond & Perol not to leave the state without permission from the Rebel Authorities. On my return to I found my store No. 6 Roanoke square
