Charles E Johnston esquire
Superintendent Freedmen's, Bureau, Norfolk Co.
Dr. Sir:
Several years ago, David S. Cherry Executor of the last will and testament of Willian D. Roberts Jr.(deceased)~(in 1858 or 1859, I think)~ sold to Peter Hanneberry of Norfolk, the leasehold property No. 6, Roanoke Square, Norfolk ~ and said P. Hanneberry is now the bona fide owner of the said property, and entitled to a deed for it: and Mr. Cherry as Ex'or of Roberts is perfectly willing to give him said deed, and has instructed me to draw it: and I will do so, as soon as the title-deeds are placed in my hands, from which I can prepare the conveyance. These facts Mr. Cherry will attest by his signature hereto. A deed was executed in 1858 or 1859, and was not recorded, but was lost during the late commotions in the county. If you knew me well enough to certify me, I would certify to you that both Mr. Cherry and Mr. Henneberry are highly respectable gentlemen, entirely credible, & both loyal to the United States. I only mention it here as my opinion, to go for what it is worth. But the signature of Mr. Cherry that he is not the owner now; of Mr. Henneberry that he is the owner; and of myself that the deed was once drawn and is now lost will, I hope, prove sufficient to satisfy your mind & relieve it of any doubts.

Witness my hand in Norfolk, this 18th day of September, AD. 1865.

The above facts are true.
Daniel S Cherry
