any kind hostile to the U.S. Govt since he left Norfolk, but continually failed in health until his death.

The premisses were rented at the time this applicant left Norfolk to go to her husband as aforesaid, to one John Wilkinson who occupied the house until the fall of 1863 when the premises were taken by O. Brown, Capt & A.Q.M & Supt Negro Affairs at this City, and by him occupied for about one year, when the premises were turned over to the possession of W. P. Webster, Maj & Provost Judge who was one of the Staff of Maj Gen. B. F. Butler.

At the time Gen Butler was relieved of the Command of this Dept, Judge Webster was occupying the premises, and when this applicant returned from Granville N.C. after the death of her husband & with her children she applied to Maj Webster for the possession of the premises, and Maj Webster kindly allowed her to occupy a part of the house, while he remained in Norfolk and when he left with his family for his home in Lowell Mass he left the premises in the quiet possession of this applicant and her family, and she has remained in the undisturbed possession of said premises until the 19th day of August inst, when she received a notice of which the following is
