To The Assistant Commissioner of Bureau of Refugees Freedman &c of State of Virginia

The Petition of Sallie W. Hodges petitioning in behalf of herself & her infant children William W Hodges and John N. Hodges who are respectively ten and five years of age, all of the City of Portsmouth in the State of Virginia, respectfully represents that she & her said infant children are the owners of a certain house & lot situate at the southwest intersection of Court & Queen Streets in the City of Portsmouth Va, as will fully appear by certificate of the Clerk of the Hustings Court for the City of Portsmouth, herewith filed marked "A",  and that they were the owners of the said house & lot on the 1st Dec. 1863 when it was first taken possession of for military purposes by the Qr Master Dept at Portsmouth.— That the said house & lot was never abandoned property, but was on the 1st Dec. 1863 when first taken possession of for military purposes, in the occupancy of your petitioner's tenant - see Affidavit No 1. That your petitioner is now, & has been for many years a great invalid being the greater part of her time, from chronic disease, in the most helpless condition, confined to her bed & chamber, and never
