Know all men by these presents that I Elizabeth Lowry of the town of Portsmouth in the County of Norfolk State of Virginia, in consideration of the sum of Five hundred dollars, to me in hand paid by Henry Hopkins- of said county the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do by these presents grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said Henry Hopkins his heirs and assigns, a certain house and lot of land, situate on the North East corner of the intersection of County and Effingham Street in the said town of Portsmouth in said County of Norfolk, and is the same house and lot of land that was conveyed by John S. White and wife, to the said Elizabeth Lowry by deed duly recorded in the Clerk's Office of the County Court of said County; together with all the privileges and appurtenances to  said house and lot of land in any sense appertaining or belonging. To have and to hold the said house and of land and appurtenances to the Land Henry Hopkins his heirs and assigns forever.  And I the said Elizabeth Lowry for myself my heirs executors and administrators do hereby covenant with the said Henry Hopkins his heirs and assigns, that the said hereby conveyed house and lot is free from all incumbrances, and that I will and my heirs executors and administrators shall present and forever defend the title to the said House and lot of land to the said Henry Hopkins his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims demand or demands of all persons whatsoever. 
   In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 22d day of July 1844.
