Clerk's Office of the County Court of Elizabeth City County.  I, Wm. S. Howard Clerk of the County Court of the County aforesaid do certify that on the 24th day of November 1865, (a deed from John Underwood U. S. Marshal of the District of Virginia To Saml. Cumming) was admitted to record in my office, conveying all that piece parcel or lot of land in the Town of Hampton Elizabeth City Co. Bounded on the North by the lot of C. F Smith, On the East by the lot of J. Brown, on the South by [[strikethrough]] the lot [[/strikethrough]] Queen Street and on the West by the lot of Mrs Stores that on the 15th day of September 1865 a deed from Saml Cumming and wife To Thomas Peck for the same property was admitted to record in my office and on the 24th day of August 1865 a deed from Thomas Peck and wife To Henry Hull jr, conveying the Western half of said lot was admitted to record in my said office.

Given under my hand this 24th day of November 1865.

To Capt CR Wilder USA in charge of Freedmen &c. I respectfully ask that you will restore me to the possession of the property above described as [[?]] to me by the deed of Thos. Peck & wife. I understand it is now under the contract of the Freedmen's Bureau & is occupied by Freedmen. This property was sold by the U.S. Marshal in the month of February /65 or thereabouts under [[?]] of confiscation & [[condemnations]] of the U. States court of Norfolk. The above [[? story]]
