Whereas John L. Hunley and wife did by deed dated 23rd day of September 1853 convey to George M. Bain Trustee a certain lot of land with appurtenances and general warranty situate on the  West side of Fourth Street in that part of Portsmouth called Gosport Beginning at the intersection of Fourth and Henry Streets thence Southwardly along Fourth Street fifty feet to the line of Moses Taylor thence Westwardly ninety feet, thence Southwardly fifty feet to Henry Street, thence Eastwardly along Henry Street ninety feet to the beginning. In trust to secure the payment of a note drawn by John L. Hunley for eight hundred and twenty five dollars dated 20th day of September 1853 endorsed by M. W. Armistead and any note given in renewal of the same and the said debt being fully paid off and discharged the said John L. Hunley desired that the said property be released unto him therefore this deed made the 3rd day of February 1857 between George M. Bain Trustee of the one part John L. Hunley of the other part witnesseth that in consideration of the premises and the sum of one dollar in hand paid the receipt [[guess]] of which is hereby acknowledged the said George M. Bain doth release unto the said John L. Hunley the lot of land above described as being conveyed by the deed dated 23rd of September 1853.
