Norfolk Va Sept 29th 1865

To The Agt of the Freedmens Beauro in the City of Norfolk

Your applicant most respectfully asks the restoration of his property situated [[strikethrough]] situated [[/strikethrough]] in Portsmouth Va. as shown by the enclosed certificate of Clerk of Court, and claims that said property was never abandoned. That he was residing in South western Va. prior to the war, that his agt Dr Ges. W. Maupin was acting as said agt for the collection of rents of said property some years prior to the war. I would further state that in January 1857 I received a stock of goods from Mr M C. Sundance of the city of New York, to take out in S.W Va. which was the immediate cause of my removal that when the war broke out I had certain amt of fds & stock on hand all being profits.  That said Sundance was entitled,
