Office Asst Supt Freedman Yorktown on July 20, 1865 Respectfully forwarded to Capt A.S. Flagg AQM & Supt Freedman &c The property referenced to in this communication is in possession of the Freedman Bureau & is at present occupied by former colored families who cohabitate about one hundred and twenty acres of land the only improvements are a few small houses built by the tenants and of but little value: the leases expire on the 31st Dec 1865. The statement of Mr Jones in regard to the nuances in which he was compelled to leave his property entirely reliable; he bears in high character among his former neighbors, and I understand did all in his power to oppose the secession of Virginia M W Coffins Capt & Asst Supt Freed The lots referred to an unoccupied have not been in possession of Govt.
