Sir,
The Undersigned respectfully submits the following representation of facts.
In January last an agent of the Treasury Department demanded and received the balances of back rents on a small farm inherited by my wife on Deep Creek in this county, and also received the rent for the current year. And in his report to Washington stated it was supposed that I was in the Rebel army. Upon the evacuation of Richmond I remained in the city voluntarily, and as soon after as practicable came hither, and voluntarily took the Amnesty Oath of President Lincoln (whom I had seen in Richmond) which declared me restored to citizenship property be. I resolved to be henceforth a true & loyal citizen of the United States. I applied to the Treasury agent in vain for the
