A. Supt Freedman's Bureau:
Sir:
I am one of two heirs-at law to a certain farm in York county, Va. about 4 miles west of Yorktown. My brother, W. W. Lee, the other heir, resides in the State of New York, where he has lived for 35 years. I have occupied the farm for many years up to April, 1862, when to get out of the way of the hostile armies then on the Peninsula, I removed to Charlotte county leaving the farm in care of John H. Foxwell. The agents of the U.S. Government subsequently regarded the farm as abandoned and required rent of Mr. Foxwell, but left him in possession of the place. Last summer I returned here and made application to Brig. Genl. Ludlow, then commanding the Peninsula, to have the property restored to me, which request was complied with. Accompanying this, is an official copy of my application to Gen. Ludlow with his order on the case. 
I have lately been informed that Gen. Ludlow's order is not recognized by the Freedmen's Bureau, and that proceedings must be had anew.
I therefore hereby respectfully make application that the said farm, on which
