Personally appeared before me this 27th day July, 1865, and after being duly sworn, Says, that they have known Joseph M. Miles for the last ten or fifteen years and have known him intimately for the last Five years having been within the lines of the so called Confederacey, Thereby having an opportunity of knowing whether or not he was connected with the late Confederate Army. From [[strikethrough]] my [[/strikethrough]] our own knowledge and information gathered Generally [[strikethrough]] I [[/strikethrough]] we can safely say that he was in no wise connected with the said Army, but instead, know that his business during this time [[strikethrough]] of of [[/strikethrough]] was of purely a private character not connected in any way with the late Rebellion. Mr Miles is now Fifty Nine years of age and would have been unable to render any efficient aid to the Rebel cause had he desired to do so.

[[strikethrough]] Sworn and subscribed this day and date above writen. [[/strikethrough]]
