To Major Genl Howard Chief Bureau R.F. & Abandoned Lands.

The Petition of Thos M. Murray, of the County of Princess Anne Virginia, respectfully represents. That he is the owner in fee simple of a tract of land in the County of Princess Anne, containing Sixty Six and 2/3 acres, derived by descent from his father David Murray, and which was allotted to him in the division of the said Murray's estate between your petitioner and his brother David E. Murray, the only children and heirs at law of the said David Murray deceased. Your petitioner files herewith a copy of said division and the affidavit of A. L. Hill, proving the identity of your petitioner. Your petitioner further states, that about the month of September 1862 he left the County of Princess Anne where he then lived, in connection with a volunteer Company under the Command of Capt Coke, and remained absent from said County till the 17th day of April last, when he returned home. That in his absence the said tract of land was taken possession of by the Government, and is now in its possession as abandoned lands. This property he now prays may be restored to him, your petitioner
