As Counsel for the Rev M. O'Keefe, I beg leave to present to you as briefly as possible the following case. On the 1st day of August 1861 Mr O'Keefe purchased of Thos. J. Corfrew the House and Lot No 31 on the North side of Mariner Street in the City of Norfolk for the sum of Three thousand one hundred dollars, as evidenced by deed of that date, a copy of which I enclose marked "A". He paid in cash the sum of Seventeen hundred dollars, and secured the balance of Fourteen hundred dollars by deed of trust of the same date, a copy of which I also enclose marked "B". The amount secured by deed of trust was reduced to Twelve hundred by the further payment of Two hundred dollars on the 26th day of December 1861. The sum of Twelve hundred dollars remains unpaid, with the interest thereon for some four years.
Mr O'Keefe took possession on the day of his purchase, and received the rents and profits of the
