In the Name of God Amen. I Edward B. Parrish of the City of Richmond, in the County of Henrico, and the State of Virginia, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament: That is to say, First-after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, the residue of my estate real and personal, I give, bequeath and dispose of as follows, to wit: To my beloved daughter Martha E. Parrish the land and appurtenances situated thereon known and described as Cherry Grove lying in the County of Elizabeth City and State of Virginia and the tract of land adjoining known as Bailey's, of both which I am the lawful owner, fencing, timber and fire wood to be supplied and furnished whenever, and from whatever portion she may desire from the tracts of land known and described as Hawkins, Sally Hawkins and Haine's, situated in the County of Elizabeth City and State of Virginia owned now by me, and I also give and bequeath to her the negros Julia, Diana and Dick now in my possession, and should those or any part of those now within the lines of the enemy be at any time hereafter recovered of whom I am the just and lawful owner, I give and bequeath them All to her with the exception of One sixth, whom I give and bequeath to Mattie E. Bates (my grand daughter,) and her heirs, and should she die without an Offspring they must be restored to my daughter Martha: I also give and bequeath all of my household and kitchen furniture to my daughter Martha: the tracts of land known and described as Hawkins, Sally Hawkins and Haine's situated in the County of Elizabeth City and the State of Virginia I give and bequeath to to my grand daughter Martha E. Bates, with the proviso that fencing timber and wood for fuel are to be supplied and furnished to my daughter Martha as above mentioned, and should the said Martha E. Bates die without leaving an Offspring the said tracts shall become the property of my daughter Martha.
To my Grandson Edward J. Ivy I give and bequeath five (5) dollars
