of your petitioner. There has been no sale of "Shepperds" but only a decree of condemnation. Whilst no legal proceedings have been started against "Stores".
Your petitioner would represent that he was a member of a volunteer company organized prior to the war & which was ordered into the service by the Government of Virginia in May 1866; that your petitioner never held any commission whatever. That your petitioner is not worth Twenty Thousand Dollars, neither is he within any of the excepted classes of the Presidents Proclamation. That your petitioner took and subscribed the Amnesty Oath of His Excellence President Johnson on the 21st Sept 1865, but he had previously taken the Amnesty Oath of His Excellency President Lincoln on 11th April 1865. Both of which he has observed in good faith & intends so to do. Now in consideration of the premises, your petitioner would most respectfully & earnestly request that his aforesaid property may be restored to him &c being the only means of subsistence to himself & family
