Sir,
I would respectfully state that I am the owner of a house and lot in Portsmouth at the S.W. corner of Court and South streets.

It was taken possession of in November 1864, by the Treasury Agent located here, I being then absent from home, and having left my house in charge of Mr Diggs, my sister, living in it.

My husband Mr Joseph Pierce was during the year 1862 sick in the south, I left anxious to see him, and obtained permission from Genl Wilie to go to him. He died in October 1864, and I made every effort to get back to my house in Portsmouth, where my parents resided, but unsuccessfully, as I could not get a passport from the Authorities, and only succeeded in getting home after the
