Personally appeared J. S. Stubbs who being duly sworn makes oath, that for two or more years, preceding the year 1862, he had acted as the agent for Mrs. Margaret Primer, in the collection of her rents, her age being such that her property could not be attended to by her in person. Sometime in the early part of the Spring or last of February of that year (before the evacuation of Portsmouth) Mrs: Primer left Portsmouth, (the particular object at the time in view he cannot say but afterwards learned it to be to be with a grandson who was suffering with a severe bodily affliction) continuing under [[strikethrough]] my [[/strikethrough]] his charge and control her property as her agent, with no expressed or implied intention of abandoning it - no necessity at the time for such a step existing - and her property being her only support - no such intention could have existed. The above facts touching [[strikethrough]] her [[/strikethrough]] his agency he can only testify to personally - but from what he learns since her return home_ She was prevented from doing so, before the evacuation of Richmond, by difficulties that she could not control
