Personally appeared before me a Notary Public in and for the City of Norfolk State of Va Lemuel Pumphrey who being duly sworn before and says that I am a native resident of this city and State and am twenty one years of age That on or about the first day of August 1855 my father died possessed of certain real estate here in which is included the house and lot on the corner of Catherine and Bute Streets, That my father died intestate which left the whole of his estate in my mother's possession which could not be divided or assigned until I became of age. That I was not twenty one years of age until the eighth (8th) day of April 1865 I then immediately returned to Norfolk and on the fifth (5th) day of May 1865 took the annexed oath to the United States Gov' a certificate of which is annexed herewith I also have this day taken Amnesty Oath prescribed in the Presidents Proclamation of May 29th 1865, which is herewith annexed. The certificate of the Clerk of the United States District Court for Virginia is also annexed, showing that this house and lot on Bute and Catherine Streets has not
