Norfolk Septr. 4th 1865

Sir, your beareau has in possession my property which was siezed by the military during the war the property is situated as follows  No 2, 4, 8, & 10 on Virginia Street and 64 bute street business demanded my absence from Norfolk about the 26th. of October 1864 and while within the lines of the Confederacy I found there was no alternative but volunteering or being conscripted, and as I had not taken the oath I chose a command and joind the army of Northern Virginia in which I served untill the surrender of Genl. Lee.  I arrived in Norfolk on my Parole, on the 2nd day of May and on the 3th of May took the amnesty Oath
