Your petitioner William H Russell of the County of York would respectfully represent, that he held in possession a tract of land known as Baptist's situated in said County adjoining the lands of Robert Cooke and your petitioner, which land belonged to the estate of his father the late Thomas C Russell, and at the division of said estate was undivided.  That he held and used said land by consent of his co-heirs (his deceased brother Edward S Russell and Robert Cooke the husband of his sister the late Virginia A Cooke upon condition of his fencing the land.  Your petitioner has never left his home, nor has he been in any way connected with the Confederate Goverment; That the agent of the Bureau of Freedmen & Abandoned lands under an erroneous impression took into possession said land, and that the same is now held by the
