To Col Orlando Brown, Assistant Commissioner of the Freedmen's Bureau for the State of Virginia

The petition of James T Saunders of the County of Northampton, respectfully represents, that he is the owner in fee simple of 148 7/12 acres of land situated in the said County in the state of Virginia, valued at $2105.25, as will appear fully by the certificate of the Clerk of the County Court of the said County herewith filed as part of this petition, and that he is the owner of no other lands: that no proceeding has ever been taken to confiscate the said lands, but he is informed and believes that the asst Superintendant of the Beaureau of said County assumes to take control over the same since the first day of January last: that he has taken the amnesty of oath proposed by President Johnson in his Proclamation of the 29th of May A.D 1865, and that he comes within none of the exceptions in the said proclamation a copy of which is herewith filed; and your petition further represents, that on 23 day of May 1865, he took the oath of amnesty prescribed by President Lincoln, a certificate whereof is herewith files as part of this petition. And your petitioner further represents, that on the 23d day of May 1865, he took the oath of amnesty prescribed by President Lincoln, a certificate whereof is herewith filed as part of this petition. And your  petitioner further represents, that he arrived at his full age on the 18th day of August 1864,and that he was a minor when he entered as a private in the confederate service and never held any other place or position in that service, and he now respectfullly requests that an order of restoration of the said lands and of the rent of the same for the year 1865, may be made, paid as in duty bound &c.
